                   K u r z f a s s u n g

    Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit beinhaltet vor allem die
 geologische Kartierung eines Gebietes von ca. 30 km2 im
 Niederen Himalaya bei Tansen in Zentral-Nepal. Es treten
 Sedimente und Metamorphite von Präkambrium bis
 Tertiär auf. Die Stratigraphie ist aufgrund der großen
 Fossilarmut der Schichten eine Lithostratigraphie. Die
 einzigen fossilen Anhaltspunkte für Gesteins-Alter sind
 Stromatolithen. Stratigraphisch kommen 2 Gruppen von Ge-
 steinen im Kartiergebiet vor, die Kali Gandaki-Gruppe und
 die Tansen-Gruppe. Die Kali Gandaki-Gruppe im Liegenden
 wird gebildet aus Karbonaten und Klastika vom Präkambrium
 bis Alt-Paläozoikum. Darüber folgt, durch eine Verwerfung
 und eine Schichtlücke getrennt und nur infolge ihrer
 Synklinal-Position erhalten, die Tansen-Gruppe mit
 Klastika von Karbon/Perm bis Tertiär. Über der Tansen-
 Gruppe, durch eine Deckenbahn getrennt, liegen als Klippe
 wiederum Gesteine der Kali Gandaki-Gruppe. An tektonischen
 Kleinstrukturen finden sich im Kartiergebiet
 hauptsächlich Auf- und Abschiebungen mit Streichrich-
 tungen um 90ø. Ein Faltenbau im Aufschlußbereich ist
 kaum entwickelt, die Schichten erscheinen allgemein
 ungefaltet, nur vereinzelt gibt es disharmonische Klein-
 faltung.


                     A b s t r a c t

   The present treatise mainly includes an elaboration of a
 geological mapping, done in an area of about 30 km2 in
 the Lesser Himalaya, in Zentralnepal around Tansen. The
 founded rocks are sediments and metasediments of ages rang-
 ing from Precambrium to Tertiary. The stratigraphy is a
 lithostratigraphy because of the dominant absence of fos-
 sils. Only stromatolithes give a rough hint for the rock
 ages. Stratigraphically 2 groups of rocks exist in the
 mapped area, the Kali Gandaki Supergroup and the Tansen
 Group. The Kali Gandaki Supergroup as the underlying one is
 built up of carbonates and klastic rocks from Precambrium
 to early Paleozoicum. Above it, separated by a fault and a
 gap of sedimentation, the Tansen Group rests with klastic
 rocks from Carbon/Permian to Tertiary. Above the Tansen
 Group, separated by a nappe-thrust, rocks of the Kali Gan-
 daki_Supergroup are again as a klippe. As tectonic small
 scale structures are found mainly faults and inverse
 faults, striking W-E. The folding is rarely developed, the
 bedding appears commonly unfolded, only sometimes small
 disharmonic folds exists.
